Our Story
The Old School as the name suggests was the village school of Beulah from the 1840’s to 1980. Built by the philanthropist Clara Thomas (1841 – 1914) of the Llwyn Madoc and Pencerrig estates Clara was one of the wealthiest women in Wales and dedicated much of her wealth to education, healthcare and local communities. The school provided education for up to 100 local children and consisted of three classrooms, a kitchen and outdoor toilets. With the school house which was built at a later date, being home to the headmaster and his family.
1966
Beulah Primary School closed its doors in 1980, along with Garth, Llanafan, Llangammarch Wells and Tirabad Primary Schools. The aim was to open a brand new ‘super primary’ school in Garth called, Irfon Valley Community Primary School which was open from 1980 to 2024.
Following the closure of Beulah School the school building itself remained empty for 35 years, until it was purchased in 2015 by us, Dave and Caroline.
We knew that the property had played an important role in the lives of many local people and there remained great connection to the property from the local community. Our ambition has always been to bring the building back to life and after 8 years of renovations we have achieved our goal.
The property now not only serves as our home, but we hope a place that our guests can enjoy and appreciate throughout their time with us.
We look forward to welcoming you,
